* Install a fresh copy of Windows, load all require drivers, software programs, utilities software’s, anti-virus and adjust screen resolution and other settings.
* Create a partition with enough available space to hold Windows and your applications. Ten gigabytes should be ample for most users (remember, the backup image will be compressed), but consider making it larger if you have a lot of programs installed or storage space to burn. For creating a partition you can use the windows partition utility or you can use utilities like PartitionMagic.
* Run your backup utility program. Its better to turn off your anti-virus program while backing up your computer system. You can find list of free backup and recovery software’s here or you can also use Norton Ghost (PC Magazine says Norton Ghost is best backup and recovery software)

* If you are using Norton Ghost for creating recovery partition then you can also schedule your back up. Scheduling your backup makes incremental backup of computer system and you always have the latest backup.

* To use the recovery partition, make sure you’ve backed up all your vital data to another drive or removable media, then boot your PC with the Ghost CD loaded in the optical drive. You’ll then be able to restore from the partition to your primary drive, resulting in a ready-to-roll PC with all your applications, drivers, and settings loaded.
